GALE's BUILDING in the present day gallery of works by Milan
Konjovic, opened in 1966 as the legacy of the great master to his native town
(1060 works of art). The building (in Biedermeier style, 1838), was built by
the pharmacist Emil Gale. The building would later become "Sweetheart's Inn",
famous for food, music, and lovely night club hostesses from nearby Swallows
Street,
decorated with red lanterns. Its present appearance Gale's building became in
the year 1881, and in successive adaptations. Today it is a place of pilgrimage
and a jewel in the rich cultural heritage of Sombor.
