Serbian reading club

SERBIAN READING CLUB "LAZA KOSTIĆ" was founded by 72 renowned citizens of Sombor on 24 March 1845, while the building itself was erected in eclectic style by its members in 1882. It was consecrated on 13 December 1882, on the Day of St. Andrew, the patron saint of the Reading-Room. For ten years, the Reading-Room's chairman was Laza Kostic. Today, owning most of all to the donations of the painter Sava Stojkov, who has enriched the Reading-Room's interior with his paintings of Sombor's most famous buildings and his portraits of the Reading-Room's 20 "best known male members", The Reading-Room represents perhaps the most spirited and beutiful space for cultural presentations and is a special gallery of the painter's works.
